Can anyone please help with my question as to why when these units arrived in South Africa they were often detached to other units instead of remaining together?
My Great Grandfather was one such case being detached to the East Griqualand Field Force for his tour of duty with the 107 Town Guard at Kokstad.
I also know of another Durham Volunteer who was on detached duty to Kitchener's Field Scouts so this is not an uncommon event.
Any help much appreciated.
