My great grandfather was killed in action on the 19/12/1900 at a place, going by the military archives, called Dwashoek.
I have tried to locate this place but with no luck.
I have asked a South African friend if it made any sense to him. He told me that the second part of it "hoek" means corner in Afrikaans but the first part does not mean anything to him. He tried to make a location by breaking the word down and applying what he knows of Afrikaans we came up with "De Was Hoek" that means "the wash corner". The only match we could find was a launderette.
Can anyone help me with this?
Thanks
Brendan
