In a recent article in our local East Devon paper there was a story behind the location of a school memorial to former local pupils from Honiton who had served and lost their lives in the Boer War. 1899-1902. The museum curator kindly sent a photo of the memorial with apologies, but due to light reflections it was not readable. I have subsequently visited and recorded the names from the beautiful brass memorial which I have listed below, not knowing if there is already a record somewhere on this website.
PEO Brind Sergt Gordon Highlanders
AW Brown Capt Suffolk Regiment
A Cameron DSO Lieut Gordon Highlanders
H Mann Capt Thornycrofts Mounted Infantry
F Richardson Lance Sergt 37th Co Imperial Yeomanry
HWS Robinson Lieut Manchester Regt
HS Sandford Capt Indian Staff Corps
PW Tindal-Atkinson Lieut RN
AV West 2nd Lieut Royal Berks Regiment
I found it interesting that bar two, they were all serving in different regiments having apparently been from local families .
Are there any particular service record details which might be of interest to the museum curator ?
