I happened upon this interesting photo, taken at the time of the Royal Visit to SA in 1947. The only Cornelius Mostert I could find in the rolls is the above chap - of course it's possible that the man in the photo never claimed his medal.
It must have been quite daunting having to face off against this giant in battle. Conversely, he would have wanted to conceal himself from stray fire in case of being hit - a very obvious target! I also spare a thought for his horse....
