I am doing family genealogy and reached a dead end. Perhaps someone can help or point me to further sources.
My great-grandfather "William Hoffman" was apparently involved in some campaigns/conflicts in the Northern Cape area during the Anglo-Boer War.
The truth of what happened to him remains a closely-guarded secret. One account said he was executed by firing squad after/during the Smuts raids on British troops.
By accounts the Hoffman family home in Riebeek Kasteel was subsequently occupied by British military forces and the wife and family expelled.
Any light on this mystery would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.
